It is the biometrics-based technology that enables the users to make secure login through secure way instead of traditional ways like passwords, pins, patterns, and like.

It is designed to provide for more easy and user-friendly access to the services, accounts, and many multiple devices.

Basically, we need to remember the passwords every time we try to login anywhere to access the services. And, for that, we have to either remember it or to write down it. Both ways prone to loss of it. Hence, it cannot be considered as a secure way.

In addition to that, It's common that people use same password for multiple services and devices. Hence, breach in one subject to breach in other also. But, Windows Hello works like Apple's Touch-ID or Facial recognition. It allow users to log onto the multiple devices and services through Windows Hello secure login service.

How Windows Hello works?

The aim of Windows Hello is to eliminate the needs of the password and to provide a more user-friendly sophisticated way to login using Facial recognition, Iris Scanner, or Finger Scanner.

For that, Windows Hello scans the face or finger and then create its 3D structured model and store it more securely in device and cloud.

So, when the use try to make a glance at a screen, it opens the device, an account, or a service in a moment. By this way, the need of the password, PIN, or patterns is eliminated.

In addition to that, Windows with its update, provided more anti-spoof technology which limits the number of success a user can do.

FIDO is an acronym of Fast Identity Online. It was first developed in 2014 by the FIDO Alliance.

What are the hardware requirements?

Windows Hello has relatively low-barrier to enter for the device. All it needs is an Windows 10 OS PC with fingerprint scanners or cameras that can capture 2D IR spectroscopy.

There are many devices that have a support for Windows Hello. The one which I have reviewed and coming under ₹50,000 price range is Asus VivoBook Ultra 15 M513.

In addition to that, The false accept rate that's acceptable for a fingerprint reader is less than 0.002%, and for facial recognition camera, it's less than 0.001%. That's actually what Microsoft has said.

If I compare the power with Apple's Face-ID, then it's 1 in 1000,000. And, 1 in 50K for touch-ID.
