Hello, guys. Today, in this article, I am going to review the Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop in detail. In addition to that, I will also compare it with other laptops to give you an idea of what to expect from the same price range laptops. So, let’s get started. But before I begin, read my dedicated article on laptop specs written in easy-to-understand language. Also, note that this one quite different than Acer Swift 3 SF314-57 laptop in terms of performance, but the design is going to remain almost same here.

The Build Quality and Material

An all-metal build of this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop.

This Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G is an all-metal build like its low-price variant SF314-57. However, the solid build isn’t contributed by only single metal. The lid is made of aluminum and the rest is made of magnesium-aluminum. The build quality really feels pretty solid and sturdy. This laptop has a unique design that feels quite a premium.

Dimensions and Weight

The dimensions of this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G are 32 cms (12.6 inches) in width, 21.7 cms (8.5 inches) in depth, and 1.6 cms (0.6 inches) in height as same as its SF314-57 variant. In addition to that, I have also measured the weight using Propert’s weighing scale. The weight is

  • For laptop with charging accessories: 1.45 kg (3.2 lbs)

The purpose to check the laptop’s weight with its charging accessories is to give you an idea about the weight you may need to carry during traveling. When compared to other laptops, it found much lightweight.

Display Quality and Color Reproduction

Size and Quality

The 14-inch FHD IPS display of this laptop.

This Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G is coming with a 14-inch Full HD IPS display. And, it has a 60Hz refresh rate. The display is surrounded by just a 4.5mm thin bezel which gives you more screen-to-body ratio. It has better viewing angles with a 1170:1 contrast ratio, thanks to the IPS display.

The contrast ratio for this display is above average (1000:1). At thanalysis, we recommend the minimum 1000:1 value for it. Next, see the color gamut of the screen.

Screen Color Reproduction

I have measured the screen color gamut to measure color reproduction efficiency. For that, I have used the Spyder 5 PRO. And the SRGB, AdobeRGB, and NTSC results for this 14-inch IPS display are in the below image.

As shown in the above image, the color gamut for this laptop’s display is 58% of SRGB, 36% of AdobeRGB, and 35% of NTSC as produced by Spyder 5 PRO - the same results that I got in case of Acer Swift 3 SF314-57 laptop. Honestly, the color gamut result is quite poor which makes this laptop useless for professional photo and video editors. However, there are some reasons that they can use it. I will discuss it later in this article.

Display Nits at different Brightness levels

This Swift 3 SF314-57G’s display has reached 264 Nits at 100% of screen brightness at the center of the screen as shown in the above image. So, below an average brighter display. The average brighter display should have nits value of at least 290 to 300. The 300 nits display allows you to work in direct sunlight without having pain in your eyes.

Screen Flex

When intentionally moved the screen with fingers up and down, I found a little screen flex there. But, honestly, it wasn’t problematic for me, thanks to the aluminum lid of the laptop. Acer has done an excellent job by equipping an Aluminum metal for the lid which contributes to the highest possible strength in low weight.

180-degree hinge of this laptop.

As you can see in the above, the hinge is running mostly along the base. Such placement of hinge also helps to reduce the flex. The hinge allows the display to turn 180-degree right back to the keyboard.

It is to note that I failed when I have tried to open the display with one finger. That shows the uneven distribution of weight across the hinge. The same scenario happened with its another variant Swift 3 SF314-57. See the below image where I have tried to open the display but ended up with the base lifted up.

Build Quality and Flex

The chiclet keyboard has a metal island which gives it more strength to resist flex as much as possible. When pressed the keyboard of this laptop down hard with fingers with a fair amount of pressure, I found little flex there. But, to be frank, it wasn’t even problematic for me during aggressive typing.

The flat square keys which are mostly identification marks of the chiclet keyboards are made of plastic keys. It has black color with white fonts on it for both primary and secondary functions. So, pretty similar results to SF314-57 laptop found in terms of keyboard design.

In addition to that, the WASD part isn’t highlighted here, which isn’t even required since this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop is not a gaming machine.

The keyboard has a white zonal backlit to illuminate the keys in the low-light or darkroom. The backlit is enough bright to illuminate the keys’ secondary functions just like SF314-57's backlit.

Overall, I found the Chiclet keyboard of this laptop quite better than Mi Notebook 14 Horizon’s Scissor mechanism and similar to Acer Swift 3 SF314-57. Also, Mi has not put the backlit on it. So, not incredible but not bad even, just a little above an average to get the job done.

Typing Experience

I am typing on the keyboard of this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop.

While typing on this keyboard, I found the keys were traveling on average 1.45mm of distance down. That’s a little below than we recommend. At thanalysis, we recommend at least 1.5mm of travel for keys for tactile feedback. However, I found the feedback consistent.

On 10FastFingers.com, I achieved 84 words per minute (WPM) speed while my speed on Macbook Pro 16-inch is 101 WPM. The keyboard of this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G gives tactile feedback. In addition to that, during aggressive typing, I found no flex on the keyboard. So, pretty similar results to SF314-57 laptop.

However, the keys are a little bit noisy but you will find them considerably silent when compared to the mechanical keyboards.

Furthermore, the power button is placed next to the “Delete” key doesn’t create any problem because it requires a long press to execute the function assigned to it. So, the accidental wrong press isn’t a matter to worry about in this Swift 3 laptop.

Small and Very Closely Placed 4 Arrow Keys

The 4 arrow keys are smaller in size and also bad-placed. They are too small and near to each other, which will make the accidental wrong press very easily. In addition to that, Page Up/Down keys are also similarly smaller in size and very closely placed similarly in the case of its variant SF314-57 laptop.

I have sometimes pressed Page Up key when wanted to press the Left-Arrow key. So, overall, the keyboard is better than the Asus VivoBook Ultra 15 M513 and Mi Notebook 14 Horizon laptops.


A 4.1-inch plastic precision touchpad of this laptop.

The plastic touchpad of this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop occupies the area of 10.1 x 6.5 cms (4.1 x 2.55 inches) approximately. In my experience, it is found to be smooth, responsive, and accurate. And it uses Windows Precision drivers despite made of plastic material instead of glass. Its another variant SF314-57 also uses Windows recognized precision unit.

In addition to that, it has two integrated buttons to click. Unlike Asus VivoBook Ultra 15 M513, the fingerprint sensor isn’t integrated with a touchpad. This touchpad will surely not help you in gaming. For that, you need to buy a dedicated gaming mouse.

Fingerprints on the Smooth Surface

Fingerprints easily show up on the smooth matte gray finish like its another variant. But, I found it easy to clean using a micro-fiber cloth. In addition to that, unlike Alienware m15 R2 gaming laptop, I found no change in surface color over the use. In Alienware’s white version, I found it was getting slightly yellowish at some of the parts.


This Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop is equipped with 2400MHz Dual Channel 8GB LPDDR4 RAM which you can upgrade to 32GB maximum. So, a quite big amount of Acer is giving you an option to upgrade for smooth and better multitasking. See below the other laptops that allows you to upgrade the RAM.

Processor and Graphics

The Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor and NVIDIA MX250 2GB graphics are powering this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop. In addition to that, Acer has equipped this laptop with 512GB of the solid-state drive to make this laptop work faster. An SSD storage allows us to read and write files at lightning speed.

So, let’s check some of the benchmarks to see where this laptop stands in terms of specs.

Cinebench R20 Score

Here, I took 3 runs of Cinebench on this laptop and shown the average of it. Cinebench is a tool to measure the single and multi-core scores of the CPU. In this Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop, I can do CPU undervolting which was worthless in its variant SF314-57.

So, without a cooling pad, the single and multi-core scores were 419 and 1376, respectively. And, with a cooling pad, both’ scores were found the same. With 0.15v CPU UV, the multi-core score raised to 1389 while the single-core score found same. So, the use of a cooling pad for this laptop is useless as no change is shown on the Cinebench score. Now, the question is what these scores tell?

First of all, During the testing, Cinebench R20 puts an excessive load on the CPU to execute the tasks. By doing so, it will check the machine’s cooling solution also which other tool doesn’t except for 3DMark. So, when the CPU comes under a heavy load, thermal throttling takes place in the processor and it reduces the performance.

For example, If your CPU has a max clock speed of 4.5GHz, then you will reach 4.1GHz max during gaming or stress tests. The reason for not picking up the limit is thermal throttling. So, If the Cinebench R20 score of the laptop is high means the laptop has a high powerful CPU with better thermal management.

Now, let’s check Geekbench benchmarks.

Geekbench 5 Score

When tested this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop using Geekbench 5, I found this laptop has scored 1203 for single-core and 3857 for multi-core. With just Intel UHD GPU, its variant SF314-57 has shown 1180 single-core and 3674 multi-core scores. Now, what does this score tell?

It tells the performance of the laptop. The higher the score, the higher the performance. Here, you have to consider the multi-core score. Look, Geekbench doesn’t put an excessive load on the CPU like Cinebench R20. And, Geekbench considers mainly productivity tasks like emailing, browsing, multitasking, and etc to evaluate the hardware.

And, such ways cannot give you an idea about the cooling solution. Because tiny tasks don’t make much weight on the CPU. Hence, If the laptop has a higher Geekbench multi-core score means its capability for productivity is much better. But, at the same time, information about thermal throttling and the cooling solution will remain unanswered by this tool.

Hence, for gamers and programmers, Geekbench isn’t a tool to evaluate the laptop. It’s better to consider Cinebench here. And, for normal users or office users, this one seems to be getting the job done.

Average CPU & GPU Clock Speed

To check the CPU clock speeds, I have used AIDA64 tool.

In a stress test at an auto fan without a cooling pad, the CPU and GPU clock speeds were 2676 MHz and 1521MHz, respectively. The same test with a cooling pad has raised the CPU speed by 2 MHz and kept GPU clock speed same. So, no noticeable change has been observed. But, with 0.15v CPU UV, the CPU clock speed has raised to 2814MHz and GPU to 1542MHz. It clearly indicates that the use of a cooling pad for this laptop is useless. But, I found CPU undervolting helpful for this laptop. Hence, only buy it if you’re about to waste your money.

Furthermore, this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop is not a gaming laptop. So, TDP measurement won't help you out here. So, it's void to measure. Hence, for a non-gaming laptop like this one, I have skipped such a test.

Video Editing Performance

The video editing performance of this laptop was tested by two ways.

  • Average of the video export time
  • Multitasking during video export

Average of the video export time

In this test, I have exported the 16 minutes and 13 seconds long video on YouTube 4K H.264 preset using Adobe Premier CC. And I have repeated the same test 4 times further to show you the average result.

So, during my test of video export in 4K preset, the Acer has ended up in on average 21 minutes and 55 seconds. That’s too much.

Multitasking during video export

The motive to conduct this test wasn’t other than to rate the smoothness of this laptop when the CPU is busy with intense work. I have checked the following during the video export, the touchpad, keyboard, and laptop’s response time.

But, I found this laptop almost smooth.

Thermal Performance

Average CPU and GPU temperature

This test was performed to tell you whether the CPU undervolting and cooling pad are efficient in temperature reduction with stable or increased performance. For the stress test, I have used the AIDA64 tool. So, the results are in the below image.

At idle at auto fan, the CPU and GPU temperatures were 47 and 49 degrees C, respectively.

During the stress test with an auto fan, both CPU and GPU temperatures were raised to 81 and 72 degrees C, respectively. The same test with cooling pad has reduced the CPU temperature to just 80 degrees C and GPU to 71 C. That’s much more. In addition to that, 0.15v CPU undervolting in the same test has further reduced both’ temperatures to 78 and 68 degrees C, respectively.

So, the CPU undervolting is found to be worthy in this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop. However, the cooling pad also contributed little small reduction but that's not useful.

Laptop’s Exterior Temperature

At idle at an auto fan, the exterior was near to mid 30 C - a pretty cool.

During the stress test at the auto fan, the palm rest was found cool to touch. The middle of the keyboard was at mid 40 C. The sides of the middle of the keyboard were found less hot compared to it. The exterior above the function keys was a bit hotter to touch. Furthermore, there was no difference between the QWERTY part and other keys in terms of temperature.

During the same test with a cooling pad, I found nearly similar results that I have got without it except for the right part of the keyboard. It was a little less hot to touch. The results of this test is pretty similar to Acer Swift 3 SF314-57 laptop.

Fans Noise Emission

At idle, the fan of this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop has emitted 32dB of noise which is not even heard. During the stress test at an auto fan, the level was increased to 44dB.

In addition to that, the gaming laptops like Lenovo Legion 7i, Dell Alienware m15 R2, MSI GS65 Stealth-004, and like have more noisy fans than this one. the noise level during gaming at performance mode increases to 60dB. And, that’s become equal to the noise emitted by a washing machine, hairdryer, and electric toothbrush.

But, such scenario is not the case with this laptop.

Camera and Microphone

The 720p camera and microphone of this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop are below average good at capturing the face and voice, respectively, pretty similar to its SF314-57 variant. Furthermore, the camera doesn’t support Windows Hello here. And, the microphone is good but also captured some noise with my voice.

For both camera and microphone, I have given a 4 score out of 10.

The 2 down-firing speakers are placed at the front corners of the sides underneath the laptop. They are below average at maximum volume and a bit tiny with a little bass present. In addition to that, while watching the YouTube video, Digitech’s sound level meter has measured the sound. The sound level was 72dB and changing around it. So, pretty similar results found to its variant SF314-57.

Fingerprint Reader

The fingerprint reader is located on the right side below the arrow keys. Thanks to Acer, it does support Windows Hello unlock. It allows you to log in to the device and other supported services very fast and secure.

There is an almost 1-inch thick two long belts consists of several holes for air intake. Such a mechanism allows the fresh air to enter to cool down the processor and a machine.

To be frank, this laptop didn’t get a long-lasting battery for CPU-intensive tasks. The 48Wh battery is powering this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop and lasted for 1 hour and 16 minutes during continuous stress tests using AIDA64. And, 7 hours and 5 minutes on YouTube Watching at 50% of screen brightness, keyboard backlighting turned off, and background apps disabled.

It's little bit lower than its SF314-57 variant. I think the reduction might be caused due to NVIDIA MX250 GPU during the stress test. As NVIDIA GPU requires higher power than Intel's UHD graphics.

When compared to Mi Notebook 14 Horizon laptop, it’s pretty average. Because a 48Wh battery is powering the Mi Notebook and, it has lasted for 7 hours and 29 minutes. Overall, the battery life is about average in life and quality.


This laptop has got 512GB of PCIe-based solid-state storage to provide a possible high performance. I have used the CrystalDiskMark tool to test its speed. And the results are below.

It’s too fast. The read speed I got was 2409MB/sec on average and, the write speed was 1483MB/sec, pretty identical results to its SF314-57 variant. So, better results to load and edit large files quickly and smoothly. The above figure consists of many technical terms like 4K, Seq, and the like. Should I buy this laptop?

This laptop is recommended for office uses, video editing, programming, and many more except for Machine learning. However, the NVIDIA MX250 GPU is capable enough to handle small-scale machine learning tasks, but the performance won't fall under the appreciable range. In my opinion, it's quite better than its SF314-57 variant, if you spend just around ₹4,000 more.

Is this laptop good?

Yes, it is good for college students as most of the students don’t require a laptop with heavy specs. So, this little one can help them easily. It is good for graphics editing for a graphics designer, for web and desktop programming for CSE students and programmers, and for other engineers like chemical and mechanical to use AutoCAD, DWSIM, and other software in their projects for process and equipment design.

Can I add HDD/SDD to this laptop?

No, there’s no extra slot for an upgrade.

Is this laptop good for video editing?

In terms of performance, this Acer Swift 3 SF314-57G laptop is good the performance is driven by Intel Core i5 CPU with NVIDIA MX250 GPU. But, in terms of screen color reproduction, I wouldn't recommend it to those who require a good color gamut display. This laptop's display just reached 58% of SRGB, 36% of AdobeRGB, and 35% of NTSC.

Can I play Games on it?

Yes, you can play games on this laptop since it has an NVIDIA MX250 dedicated GPU with a 2GB of Graphics memory to handle the complex graphics easily. But, I wouldn't recommend this laptop to competitive gamers because they require a dedicated gaming laptop which consists of NVIDIA GTX or RTX GPUs with better cooling solution and performance modes.

Is this laptop upgradable?

Yes, you can upgrade RAM to 32GB which is just 8GB at the time of buying this laptop. There’s nothing remain that you can upgrade.

Is Acer, the manufacturing company of this laptop, the best?

Yes, Acer is one of the best laptop manufacturing companies on this planet. It manufactures many outstanding products. But, the customer service isn’t satisfactory. In fact, According to the survey by LaptopMag, Acer’s customer service got 54 scores out of 100.
