Both Notebook 14 and HP 14s are quite close to each other except in terms of processor, battery, and weight. Also, the graphics, I should add. With a very little price gap, Mi is offering very high specs. So, it's gonna be winner of this round.

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. HP 14s dr1009tu: Design

In the design face-off, it’s really easy for me to decide the winner. You just look at both machines below.

A premium looking Mi Notebook 14 Horizon laptop.
Mi Notebook 14 Horizon.
The HP 14s dr1009tu laptop.
HP 14s dr1009tu laptop

Mi Notebook is falling towards more premium category laptops whereas HP dr1009tu is on the more classic look.

The build quality of both machines is totally different. The Notebook 14 is made of anodized all-aluminium metal whereas 14s is made of all-plastic. It's a bit strange for me that, despite the plastic build, HP's one is more sturdy than Mi. At thanalysis, we always recommend a metal build. But, Mi is the case where we've to put it one exception there. Okay. Let's move forward to explore more.

The dark silver colour of Notebook 14 gives it more lucrative look compared to the light silver of HP laptop. I'm not getting biased to judge both of them in term of style. However, in ₹60K price range laptops, Acer Swift 3 SF314-57 has left me with a bias due to nearly identical design.

Both laptops have the same thickness but a little bit different width and breadth. However, it isn't making a noticeable difference at all because of the absence of 15.6-inch display.

The bottom cover of both devices consists of some air intake vents. We'll see it whether they are useful or not in the upcoming round of this face-off. So, we'll leave this round by declaring the final winner. You might probably know which one is that.

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. HP 14s dr1009tu: Display

In this round, I will take size, resolution, nits, colour gamut, panel, and contrast ratio into consideration.

Both laptops are the same in terms of display size, panel, and a resolution. The values are 14-inch, IPS, and FHD (1980 x 1080), respectively. I hope other factors are different otherwise, this round will go draw. But, one thing I like that both' display gives a very good viewing angle which is the primary requirement we recommend at Thanalysis. But it's not limited.

The Notebook 14's display is surrounded by 4.5mm side bezels whereas HP 14's one is 6.5mm in size. It's common thinking that thin bezel laptop is always premium, but that's false many times. Anyway. let's proceed further.

During the display nits measurement, Mi Notebook ended up with 250 whereas 14s dr1009tu just 245. It’s to note that none of them has touched the average value. At Thanalysis, we recommend 300 nits as an average value the laptop’s display must-have.

The colour gamut consists of RGB and AdobeRGB mainly, as far as the laptop is concerned. The SRGB value for Notebook 14 is 63% whereas the same for HP 14s dr1009tu is 59%. The AdobeRGB one is 46% for Notebook 14 whereas the same for HP is 39%.

So, the Mi Notebook 14 Horizon is more colourful than HP 14s.

The contrast ratio for Mi Notebook 14’s display is 920:1, whereas the same for HP is 1400:1. At thanalysis, we recommend at least 1000:1 value of the contrast ratio. So, the winner is…..

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. HP 14s dr1009tu: Keyboard and Touchpad

In this round, the face-off will happen at different angels like typing experience, keyboard build quality, backlit, and touchpad.

The base of Notebook 14 is made of metal whereas 14s has a plastic base. Weirdly, Mi has more keyboard flex despite a metal build. HP 14s has also little more flex, but it's not at the level to be called as a problematic.

In 2021, I believe we must buy a laptop that has a backlit keyboard. HP 14s does have it whereas thumbs down for Mi Notebook. Mi should put a backlit on the keyboard.

Furthermore, Notebook's compact chiclet keyboard has black plastic keys with white fonts on it. HP 14s dr1009tu's chiclet one has white plastic keys with grey colour fonts. In my humble opinion, I will only vote for Notebook 14. Well, it's my personal belief that black keys with white fonts are more comfortable because of a better contrast in-between. Let's look forward to typing experience as it's more important than the style.

Typing on the Mi Notebook is really a disaster. You gonna face two main problems on it. First, the flex. Second, the inconsistent 1.3mm of travel, which isn't tactile. HP 14s's keyboard is tactile gives inconsistent 1.45mm of keys' travel. Both are below-average.

Both laptops have 2 arrow keys which are small in size and messy placed. It looks like going harder for me to decide the winner since both of them failed to meet the quality. Also are not different from each other. Let’s find out the touchpad. I wish I found some noticeable difference here else the round will favour by considering the size of the keyboard.

You gonna now face a bit weird thing. Be ready for that.

Mi Notebook has a smooth, responsive, and accurate touchpad. It's a plastic surface, and it clicks down anywhere. And, it's not Windows recognized precision unit. Now, HP 14s's one is a precision-enabled component with a plastic surface. So, I should expect it smooth, responsive, and also accurate. But it's not accurate.

I faced some problem in the zoom and rotate gestures. It's really harder for me to decide the winner since both are a loser.

One minor factor - a size - is okay. Mi has 4.5-inch wide one whereas HP has 4.1-inch. If we just consider size here, then I'll recommend both since the 4.1-inch size is big enough for the complete Windows 10 gesture activities. So, the time has arrived to throw one.

Winner: HP 14s dr1009tu

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. HP 14s dr1009tu: Ports

Both laptops have USB 3.1 port including a 3.5m audio/combo jack. But, I'm interested to find something else.

I’m looking for the thunderbolt-3 port which no machines have. But, both laptops luckily coming with a USB Type-C port which will allow you to transfer the data at 5Gbps speed.

Furthermore, the placement of a 3.5 audio/combo jack is bit awkward in Mi Notebook with your leg when earphone will be plugged-in, whereas it’s not problematic in HP 14s dr1009tu. So, who won this round?

Winner: HP 14s dr1009tu

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. HP 14s dr1009tu: Performance and graphics

This face-off will look at different angles in both laptops like CPU, GPU, several benchmark tests, and many more. So, let’s start with the CPU first.

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon has Intel Core i7-10510U CPU whereas HP 14s has Intel Core i5-1035G1. So, both are quite different. In the first sight, it looks like Notebook is a winner. But, performance doesn’t mean the processor. Hence, I’ve conducted several benchmark tests like Cinebench R20, Geekbench 5, and PCMark 10.

In Cinebench R20 test without a cooling pad, Mi Notebook has achieved 371 scores for Single-Core and 891 for Multi-Core. HP 14s has achieved 399 for Single-Core and 1098 for Multi-Core. Have you seen it? I think Yes. The Core i7 doesn’t seem to be powerful enough for Mi Notebook. No, Intel Core i7 is powerful, but the internal design in Notebook 14 is too bad to smoothly handle CPU-intensive tasks. So, 14s laptop is ahead in this step.

In Geekbench 5 test, Mi Notebook got 967 and 3031 scores for Single and Multi-Core, respectively, whereas the 14s dr1009tu got 1034 and 3189. Again, this HP 14s is a little bit ahead in this step.

During the stress test at an auto fan, Notebook 14 achieved 1823MHz CPU clock speed whereas the HP 14s ended up with 2296MHz. So, a noticeable difference I got. Again, for the final nomination, I will send HP 14s dr1009tu laptop. But, this face-off doesn’t end up here. Something remains that must be accounted for.

I’ve exported the 16 minutes and 13 seconds long video in YouTube 4K H.264 preset and repeated the same test 4 times further to find out the average video export time in Adobe Premiere CC.

Mi Notebook 14 has exported in 1100 seconds whereas 14s took almost 2141 seconds to complete. Here, Mi is way ahead due to the higher CPU and a dedicated GPU. Now, it’s GPU’s turn.

As HP 14s has no dedicated GPU, this round favours the Notebook 14.

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. HP 14s dr1009tu: Battery

Battery life is one of the most important factors the face-off round must include. And I’ve included it.

The Mi Notebook 14 has 48Wh capacity battery whereas HP’s has 41Wh one. I’ve tested the battery life in two ways, watching YouTube videos, and performing stress test till the battery dies.

So, the battery during YouTube watch lasted for 449 minutes in Mi Notebook whereas 389 minutes in HP 14s dr1009tu. So, a noticeable difference found.

In the stress test, Mi Notebook ended up with 105 minutes, whereas HP dr1009tu died in 74 minutes. So, the winner is clear.

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. HP 14s dr1009tu: Camera and microphone

Both laptops have good camera and mic. However, those in Mi Notebook, are got 5 out of 10 whereas HP 14s's got 4 out of 10. None supports Windows Hello unlock. But, a bit awkward thing is that Mi Notebook comes with a separate Camera bundle.

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. HP 14s dr1009tu: Wireless connectivity

And, finally the last step of this face-off - Wireless connectivity.

For wireless connectivity, both laptops have Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth version 5. Hence, this round goes draw.

Winner: Draw.
