As per the above specs comparison, Mi Notebook 14 is offering the best quality hardware compared IdeaPad S145, which in turns makes it winner of session. You can see the IdeaPad has not even Type-C port. Also, it's almost 500 grams heavier than Mi.

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon.

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. Lenovo IdeaPad S145: Design

In the design face-off, it's really easy for me to decide the winner. You just look at both machines below.

A Premium looking Mi Notebook 14 Horizon laptop.
Mi Notebook 14 Horizon.
Lenovo IdeaPad S145 laptop.
Lenovo IdeaPad S145 laptop.

In comparison, Mi Notebook is coming with more premium look whereas Lenovo IdeaPad S145 is at the middle of the race.

The build quality of both machines is different. Mi Notebook 14 Horizon is all-anodized aluminium build whereas IdeaPad S145 is made of all-plastic. Despite I found the plastic build sturdy, I upvote only for the Notebook.

The dark silver colour of Mi Notebook is more pleasant than the light silver of Lenovo S145. I was biased during the face-off of Mi Notebook 14 vs Acer Swift 3 SF314-57 due to the more identical design and build quality. But, in this comparison, I'm clearly not.

Mi Notebook is 2mm slimmer than the IdeaPad S145 and almost 500 grams lighter. Because of 15.6-inch big display, S145 will definitely occupy the more space than the Notebook.

The bottom cover is very clear with some air intake vents. So, the time is come to decide the winner. And the winner is decided.

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. Lenovo IdeaPad S145: Display

In this round, I will take size, resolution, nits, colour gamut, panel, and contrast ratio into consideration.

Mi Notebook has 14-inch display whereas IdeaPad has 15.6-inch one. It's to note that both have same FHD (1980 x 1080) resolution. There's also a difference in terms of viewing quality.

Notebook 14 has IPS panel which gives quite good viewing angles whereas IdeaPad S145 has VA one which is only known for good contrast ratio. So, the picture quality at different angles won't good in the Lenovo's IdeaPad.

Mi is providing a very thin bezel - just 4.5mm whereas IdeaPad has 7.5mm side bezels. Thin side bezels are known for a premium look and it also increase the screen part.

During the display nits measurement, Mi Notebook ended up with 250 whereas IdeaPad just 227. It’s to note that none of them has touched the average value. At Thanalysis, we recommend 300 nits as an average value the laptop’s display must-have.

The colour gamut consists of RGB and AdobeRGB mainly, as far as the laptop is concerned. So, the SRGB value for Notebook 14 is 63% whereas the same for IdeaPad S145 is 52%. The AdobeRGB one is 46% for Notebook 14 whereas the same for IdeaPad S145 is 49%. So, IdeaPad isn't excellent in term for photo editing but more colourful than Mi Notebook.

The contrast ratio for Mi Notebook 14’s display is 920:1 whereas the same for Lenovo is 1100:1. At thanalysis, we recommend at least 1000:1 value of the contrast ratio. So, the winner is…..

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. Lenovo IdeaPad S145: Keyboard and Touchpad

In this round, the face-off will happen at different angels like typing experience, keyboard build quality, backlit, and touchpad.

First, the base is made of plastic in Lenovo IdeaPad S145 and of metal in Notebook 14. But, I found IdeaPad’s build quality more sturdy than Notebook’s.

In 2021, the laptop must have at least a backlit keyboard. But, neither have it. It's pretty awkward.

Mi Notebook 14’s compact keyboard has plastic keys with black colour and white fonts whereas IdeaPad S340’s full size one has dark grey keys with white fonts. I found no problem in visual. I would like to mention that Mi Notebook’s keyboard is chiclet style whereas IdeaPad’s one is of island style. But, the style doesn’t important since we want the typing experience.

Typing on both laptops is really disaster. Mi Notebook 14 has given inconsistent tactile feedback. The key travel was varying around 1.3mm. Lenovo IdeaPad S145 was also giving same inconsistent tactile feedback. The key travel was also changing between 1.2 to 1.4mm.

Both laptops have 2 arrow keys which are small in size and messy placed. It looks like going harder for me to decide the winner since both of them failed to meet the quality. Also are not different from each other. Let's find out the touchpad. I wish I found some noticeable difference here else the round will favour by considering the size of the keyboard.

Mi Notebook has 4.5-inch wide plastic touchpad. It's smooth, responsive, and accurate, and doesn't support Windows precision drivers. It clicks down anywhere but I found it getting bend more when pressed. The IdeaPad S145's touchpad was little bit smaller in size - 4.1-inch wide. The rest of all things are same to Notebook 14.

At thanalysis, we recommend 4.1-inch size for trackpad as a lower boundary to experience maximum Windows 10 gestures. And, luckily both are meeting. So, this round will favour on the one basis.

Winner: Lenovo IdeaPad S145

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. Lenovo IdeaPad S145: Ports

Both laptops have USB 3.1 and 2.0 ports including 3.5mm audio/combo jack. But, I’m interested to see something more.

I’m looking for the thunderbolt-3 port which no machines have. But, Mi notebook has USB Type-C port whereas IdeaPad hasn't. That's another awkward thing about S145.

Furthermore, the placement of a 3.5 audio/combo jack is bit awkward in Mi Notebook with you leg when earphone will be plugged-in whereas it's not problematic in Lenovo S145. So, who won this round?

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. Lenovo IdeaPad S145: Performance and graphics

This face-off will look at different angles in both laptops like CPU, GPU, several benchmark tests, and many more. So, let’s start with the CPU first.

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon has Intel Core i7-10510U CPU whereas S145 has Intel Core i5-1035G1. So, both are quite different. In the first sight, it looks like Notebook is a winner. But, performance doesn’t mean the processor. Hence, I’ve conducted several benchmark tests like Cinebench R20, Geekbench 5, and PCMark 10.

In Cinebench R20 test without a cooling pad, Mi Notebook has achieved 371 scores for Single-Core and 891 for Multi-Core. Lenovo IdeaPad has achieved 441 for Single-Core and 1472 for Multi-Core. Have you seen it? I think Yes. The Core i7 doesn’t seem to be powerful enough for Mi Notebook. No, Intel Core i7 is powerful, but the internal design in Notebook 14 is too bad to smoothly handle CPU-intensive tasks. So, S145 IdeaPad is ahead in this step.

In Geekbench 5 test, Mi Notebook got 967 and 3031 scores for Single and Multi-Core, respectively, whereas the S145 IdeaPad got 1069 and 3851. Again, this S145 is way ahead in this step.

During the stress test at an auto fan, Notebook 14 achieved 1823MHz CPU clock speed whereas the IdeaPad ended up with 3376MHz. So, a noticeable difference I got. Again, for the final nomination, I will send IdeaPad. But, this face-off doesn’t end up here. Something remains that must be accounted for.

I’ve exported the 16 minutes and 13 seconds long video in YouTube 4K H.264 preset and repeated the same test 4 times further to find out the average video export time in Adobe Premiere CC.

Mi Notebook 14 has exported in 1100 seconds whereas IdeaPad S145 took almost 1841 seconds to complete. Here, Mi is a little bit ahead due to the higher CPU and a dedicated GPU. Now, it’s GPU’s turn.

As Lenovo IdeaPad has no dedicated GPU, this round favours the Notebook 14.

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. Lenovo Ideapad S145: Battery

Battery life is one of the most important factors the face-off round must include. And I’ve included it.

The Mi Notebook 14 has 48Wh capacity battery whereas Lenovo's has 35Wh one.

I’ve tested the battery life in two ways, watching YouTube videos, and performing stress test till the battery dies.

So, the battery during YouTube watch lasted for 449 minutes in Mi Notebook whereas 265 minutes in Lenovo IdeaPad S145. So, a noticeable difference found.

In the stress test, Mi Notebook ended up with 105 minutes, whereas Lenovo IdeaPad died in 52 minutes. So, the winner is clear.

Winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon

Mi Notebook 14 Horizon vs. Lenovo IdeaPad S145: Camera and microphone

And, finally the last step of this face-off – The camera and a microphone.

Both machines have great camera and mic, but only got 5 out 10 in my ratings. The worse thing in Mi is that the camera is sold as a separate bundle whereas the same is integrated on the top bezel in the case of Lenovo IdeaPad. Also, none of them support Windows Hello unlock.

Winner: Lenovo IdeaPad S145

Overall winner: Mi Notebook 14 Horizon
